When did EWH become aware of the noise problems?
We take this extremely seriously and turned off the plant over the August bank holiday weekend while we investigated and implemented any possible immediate measures to reduce the risk of noise, including fitting hundreds of noise absorption blankets.

What was the cause?
We understand that the problem was at least partly caused by faulty silencing equipment and we are diligently investigating all possible factors. At the same time, we are working closely with specialist noise consultants to successfully maintain permanent reduced noise levels as soon as possible. Dealing with this is our top priority as we strive to contribute positively to our community. We are confident we will resolve this issue in very short order.

Did you expect the facility to be this noisy?
The facility is designed to limit the risk of noise potential. The recent change appears to have been at least partly caused by faulty silencing equipment – but we are diligently investigating all possible factors. At the same time, we are working closely with specialist noise consultants to successfully maintain permanent reduced noise levels as soon as possible. Dealing with this is our top priority and we are committing substantial resources to it. We are confident we will resolve this issue in very short order.

How much have the delays and this process cost EWH?
Dealing with this is our top priority and we are committing substantial resources to it. Our focus has been on resolving any potential noise issues and getting the facility operational. We look forward to the plant continuing to process waste and produce renewable energy.

Has this problem got anything to do with your recent decision to terminate your agreement with the EPC contractor, MW High Tech Projects UK Limited?
This issue is not related to the decision we took earlier this year to terminate MW High Tech Projects UK Limited’s engineering, procurement and construction contract. Our current lead contractor, Black & Veatch, is a global engineering firm with extensive experience of commissioning renewable energy plants.
